REBD-496: Yuna Cheering For You

Yuna Otoha is a newcomer to both JAV and IVs, releasing her first JAV film in August and her first IV release in September. Given this is Yuna’s first shot (that I am aware of) at Gravure style content, it’s understandable that things may be a little rough around the edges in many categories, so let’s jump into it the review.

Production & Setting

The film opens with the customary preview montage of the different set pieces to be expected in the film, standard REbecca fare here. Then for the next hour its on to a variety of sets, starting with a brightly lit abandoned building, one that works well with Yuna’s white attire in the first shot, the second shot teases the viewer with Yuna on a colorful rooftop but then sends her into a decently lit room with a couch to serve as her primary interaction piece (in contrast to the small garden table from the first scene). From there it’s into a living room style setting with Yuna in a cheerleader outfit and a loveseat as her stage. Then it’s off to the showers. The remaining two scenes, which are longer than the prior, are still shot in this abandoned looking building, using beds as the stage. The 2nd to last scene has a good wide open aesthetic, contrasting well with all the white furniture and walls is windows showing off the green forest in the background, however, this scene is mostly focusing on Yuna playing with herself, cutting the music as it progresses into a full masturbation affair before resuming as a modelling shoot for the remaining few minutes.

The final setting is a dark bedroom but with good contrasting colors between the walls, blankets, and other aspects of the room. This scene is basically a simulated sex scene, it starts off as gravure, then Yuna starts to play with herself again, and it moves to her giving a blowjob to a glass dildo before proceeding to get into various sexual positions and simulating penetration and all that sort of stuff. The music is dead by this point. Eventually this part ends and that’s it for the film.

Production quality wise, its hit and miss, there are many good shots throughout the film, but the decision to not edit out the parts where Yuna is talking (or cut the music so the viewer can hear what she says) is an oversight in contrast to other IVs that have done this. In addition, the simulated sex part is not very well done, that likely is also due to Yuna’s overall inexperience, which the producers of this IV should have known and steered clear, instead focusing on the gravure portion, especially given the quality of the sets during those scenes.

Music

In my opinion the most important part of any IV, it sets the pace, the tone, and can determine how successful the idea of the shoot is conveyed to the viewer. It takes the backdrop, the personality of the actress, and the movements of the scene and combines them into one singular idea if it’s done well. There are six scenes with six sets of music. The first track is a good lighthearted but medium paced track with a nice comfortable and soft beat that works to introduce the viewer to Yuna as a casual woman. This is in stark contrast to a much faster paced orchestral track in her second scene. The music is a little too grand in some parts for what is being portrayed by Yuna, but the rest of it is toned down enough to work as she undresses and takes varying positions on the couch. 

The third scene, the debut of the cheerleader outfit. It’s clear they chose some really fast paced music for this part, but Yuna just doesn’t do anything to keep pace with it, and then when it’s time for her to model on the seat the music is either almost non-existent due to the note progression, or its just too slow for the scene. The shower scene has more of a serene flair to it, which would work nicely in many shower/washing settings in other IVs, and it does work here. It attempts to portray the scene as less sexual and more natural, washing yourself in contrast to spreading your legs on a couch. This style is carried forward in the next piece, but sadly doesn’t last long before the music is cut for the masturbation part. The music returns with a higher pace and more bass following her climax and remains for the rest of the shoot. The last scene is almost entirely simulated sex, pretty much no music here.

Aesthetic & Performance

Muted palettes, that’s probably the best way to describe the attire worn by Yuna and the visual representation of the shoots. White underwear (and especially bras) dominate every scene, with the color of the underwear only changing during the last two “sex” scenes, and even then, they are basically just grey. The exception attire wise is the cheerleader outfit but that scene has issues regarding set aesthetic, so it doesn’t stand out in a good way. The rooms and locations used for the shoots weren’t bad, abandoned room/building sort of affair. The most aesthetically pleasing of the sets was likely the 2nd to last one and that is mostly due to the presence of a bright green forest in the background. Dynamically the last scene has the most going on color wise, but that is used for a rather subpar simulated sex scene. Yuna’s best outfit is also in the 2nd scene but given that the cover of the film focuses on the cheerleader outfit, viewers may be going in expecting to see it utilized to the fullest. Spoilers: it isn’t.

Now for Yuna herself, body wise she doesn’t have any standout features, except in some shots where her nipples are sticking out at a decent size. The bush is standard fare, and her hair, while nice when long, gives off a bit of a different impression of her overall appearance than what the cover photo suggests. Her facial expressions are lacking to say the least, in pretty much every scene, except maybe during the masturbation/sex scenes, but given that this film isn’t primarily marketed as porn, it would probably be best to watch her debut JAV for that sort of thing.

Summary

Given that this is Yuna’s first foray into adult content in general, both involving standing in random places nude or having sex, it’s understandable that she won’t necessarily have the flow down. Her expressions need work, she needs to talk less in her scenes (not that she does it much past the first shoot, but that either needs to be heard or the scene redone or something). Visually she is attractive, but the settings were a little too plain in their complexity, with the exception of the last two scenes but one of those was dominated almost entirely by sex. I wouldn’t say I am looking forward to more from her based on this presentation, but I will still check it out to see what improves. For potential viewers, this is likely an IV you can skip, especially if you are new to the genre. It serves however as a decent representation for what simulated sex can look like in gravure and you could contrast Yuna’s performance here with her debut JAV film and see the differences in performance and filming styles. If you are the sort of gravure fan that likes to watch newcomers, then by all means check this out.

– Simulated sex portion wasn’t well done, and it had one of the better backdrops
– Yuna’s performance overall didn’t mesh well with the music or the overall theme, with only one exception
– Yuna talks in some scenes but is dubbed over with music
– Overall the backdrops were uninspired, which is fine if fully utilized, which they weren’t
